Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport
Bangkok is served by two airports: Suvarnabhumi Airport and
Don Muang Airport . Suvarnabhumi Airport is used by all airlines
in Thailand, except for domestic flights on Nok Air and Orient
Thai, which still use the old Don Muang Airport. Both these
airports are about 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the city
center, so be prepared for a long ride to get into the city.
Also allow at least three hours to connect between them, as
they are far away from each other and there is heavy congestion
on the roads.
Suvarnabhumi Airport
Located 30 kilometers (19 miles) to the east of Bangkok, space-age
Suvarnabhumi Airport (สุวรรณภูมิ, pronounced "soo-wanna-poom")
(IATA: BKK) (ICAO: VTBS) started operations in September 2006
and is now Bangkok's main airport and the busiest airport
in Southeast Asia. It is used for almost all international
and domestic flights to Bangkok. There is only one terminal
building, which covers both domestic and international flights,
but it is huge (by some measures the world's largest), so
allow time for getting around. There are two Immigration sections,
if there is a large queue check out the other one, processing
time is lengthy.
